Willow managed to cut out of the concert early and head home. She wanted to ensure she had time to herself before Garrett arrived. She knew that he’d come to see her at the house, and even now she flushed at the thought. Kicking off her boots and socks, she padded barefoot through the first floor, lighting candles here and there. She blushed as she climbed the stairs to light a few in her bedroom, chiding herself for being such a prude. She knew what she wanted with him, and she’d waited long enough.
She put out a bottle of Macallan 18 and two rocks glasses, remembering that he’d mentioned liking Scotch and recalling the faint taste of it in his kiss from earlier. Her hand instinctively went to her mouth, the feel of his lips against hers still so fresh.
Willow had just synced Pandora to her speaker, choosing a country love-song station, when she heard a knock at the front door. She flipped her hair upside down and shook it out before flipping it back and giving her cheeks a little pinch. There. She was ready to embrace her inner vixen. She smiled coyly as she swung the door open, ready to tease him a little before letting him in.
But it wasn’t Garrett who was waiting there for her. Sawyer Brantley was standing three feet away on her porch, his guitar in one hand and a bottle of amber-colored liquor dangling from the other. Willow instinctively reached up to smooth her hair and stepped shyly to hide her bare feet behind the door. It didn’t seem to faze him one bit.
“Well, I wasn’t sure you’d be up for company since the autograph session ran so long, but I’m glad to see I was wrong.”
Sawyer cleared the threshold, stepping past her and into the front hall. Looking around, he noted the music and the candles before returning his gaze to Willow, taking her in from tip to toe. He all but licked his lips appreciatively, then turned to set his guitar in the corner by the front door. He held up the bottle, nodding down the hall toward the kitchen. “Mind if I scare up a couple of glasses? I grabbed the good stuff on the way out, and it’d be a shame not to share a glass with the general manager of this fine establishment.”
Willow felt herself relax a bit, relieved that Sawyer just wanted a drink. She’d spend just enough time with the man so as not to be rude while still allowing time to get ready for Garrett. She was sure she could get rid of him in time.
I’ll have to grin and bear him.
It.
Whatever.
“I’ll grab the glasses, and we can sit here in the front room. Make yourself comfortable. That couch is new; it just arrived yesterday. Let me know what you think.” Willow rambled as she rushed down the hall to the kitchen, coming back with the same two glasses she had set out for her and Garrett.
